O Iron Maiden é uma banda inglesa de heavy metal, formada em 1975 pelo baixista Steve Harris, ex-integrante das bandas Gypsy's Kiss e Smiler. Originária de Londres, foi uma das principais bandas do movimento musical que ficou conhecido como NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal). O nome "Iron Maiden" foi inspirado em um instrumento de tortura medieval que aparece no filme O Homem da Máscara de Ferro. Esse também era o apelido da ex-primeira ministra britânica Margaret Thatcher, que aparece nas capas dos compactos "Women in Uniform" e "Sanctuary".
Com mais de três décadas de existência, catorze álbuns de estúdio, seis álbuns ao vivo, catorze vídeos e diversos compactos, o Iron Maiden é uma das mais importantes e bem sucedidas bandas de toda a história do heavy metal, tendo vendido mais de 100 milhões de álbuns registrados em todo o mundo. Seu trabalho influenciou diversas bandas de rock e metal. Eles são citados como influência por bandas como Hazy Hamlet, Slayer, Metallica, Slipknot, Anthrax, Angra, Helloween, Death, Megadeth, Dream Theater e Umphrey's McGee, entre muitos outros.
Em março de 2001, a banda recebeu o prêmio Ivor Novello Award em reconhecimento às realizações em um parâmetro internacional como uma das mais bem-sucedidas parcerias de composição da Inglaterra. Heinlein, Murders In The Rue Morgue, Flight of Icarus, Where Eagles Dare, Rime of the Ancient Mariner - baseada no poema de Samuel Coleridge -, To Tame a Land - da série de ficção científica Duna, de Frank Herbert - e The Trooper - canção baseada no romance The Charge of The Light Brigade. Outros temas bastante recorrentes nas músicas da banda são ocultismo, assassinato e o escuro, por exemplo, nas músicas Murders in the Rue Morgue e Innocent Exile e nas capas dos álbuns Sanctuary, Women in Uniform, Iron Maiden e Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter.

Iron Maiden is an English heavy metal band from Leyton, East London, England, formed in 1975. The band is led by founder, bassist and songwriter Steve Harris. Since forming in 1975 they have released fourteen studio albums, nine live albums, four EPs and eight compilations.
As a pioneer of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, Iron Maiden rose to fame in the early 1980s, and after several lineup changes, they went on to release a string of platinum and gold albums. These include the US platinum-selling landmark The Number of the Beast in 1982 and the follow up Piece of Mind in 1983. Iron Maiden released their newest studio effort in 2006 entitled A Matter of Life and Death, which peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold in the UK.
As one of the most successful heavy metal bands of all time, Iron Maiden have sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, without significant mainstream or radio support. The band won the Ivor Novello Awards for international achievement in 2002, and were also inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk in Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California during their tour in the United States in 2005. Their influences include: Thin Lizzy, UFO, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash.
