Os Bee Gees foram uma banda pop do Reino Unido formada pelo irmão mais velho Barry Gibb, e os gêmeos Robin Gibb e Maurice Gibb. Fazem sucesso desde 1966, sendo um dos quatro artistas que mais venderam discos no mundo. Passaram por altos e baixos na carreira e por diversos ritmos musicais, do rock psicodélico às baladas, passando pelo country e country rock, pelo rock, pela música disco e pelo R&B, terminando no pop rock moderno.

De 2001 até hoje - fim do grupo

Em 2001, lançaram o que foi o seu último álbum, This Is Where I Came In, um álbum pop rock, em que se destaca a canção/titulo "This Is Where I Came In", "Wedding Day", "Sacred Trust" e "Man In The Middle", álbum que também teve repercussão localizada em países diferentes: sucesso na Europa, frieza na América, estouro na Ásia. Depois, os Bee Gees decidiram dar um tempo. Em 2002, Robin Gibb começa a gravar seu quinto álbum solo. Entretanto, uma tragédia acontece em 12 de Janeiro de 2003: de ataque cardíaco, morre Maurice Gibb, instrumentista do grupo; curiosamente sua irmã Leslie faz aniversário nesse dia. Maurice tinha a fama de ser o mediador entre tais mentes conflitantes de Barry e Robin. Estes então anunciaram o fim do grupo, no dia 22. Durante sua carreira, os Bee Gees ganharam sete prêmios Grammy e foram incluídos no Songwriters Hall of Fame (Hall da Fama dos Compositores) e, em 1997, no Hall da Fama do Rock and Roll.
Os irmãos continuaram seu trabalho de forma solo. E, mesmo com a morte do irmão, Robin lançou um disco solo em 2003, que vem com diversas baladas modernas, e que chegou a ser bem difundido na Europa. Trabalhou no ano seguinte com Alistar Griffin e, em 2005, com o G4. Produziu o single de lançamento de uma das ex-integrantes da banda Atomic Kitten, com sucesso estrondoso na Inglaterra e Europa. Entre 2004 e 2006 saiu em turnê pelo mundo, turnê esta que foi chamada MAGNETIC TOUR, da qual um dos concertos foi registrado em CD e DVD.
Em 2004 os irmãos Gibb receberam o título Doutor Honoris Causa da Universidade de Manchester e a Comenda de Cavaleiros do Império Britânico, em Londres. Barry trabalhou compondo e produzindo para Cliff Richard, em 2004, e para Barbra Streisand, em 2005, revivendo o sucesso de 1980. O álbum Guilty Pleasures, produzido para ela, foi bem visto em todo o mundo, e recolocou Barry na mídia.
Em 2006, os irmãos se reuniram para uma apresentação beneficente em Miami e para o Prince's Trust em Londres. Receberam no mesmo ano um prêmio da Academia Britânica da Música. Mas nada disso é fonte de reconciliação dos irmãos. Porém, em 2006, os Bee Gees assinaram com a Reprise Records, que começa a relançar seus álbuns.
Continuando a vida, Barry começa a lançar várias músicas no iTunes: lança seus novos singles "Doctor Mann" e "Underworld" e as demos dos álbuns produzidos por ele na década de 1980 — Guilty, Heartbreaker, Eyes That See in the Dark e Eaten Alive. Robin lança, em novembro de 2006, seu último álbum: My Favourite Christmas Carols, que contém vários hinos natalinos mais a faixa "Mother of Love", sua mais nova composição. Atualmente, Robin segue em sua carreira solo se apresentando em vários paises cantando sucessos dos Bee Gees e de sua carreira solo. Já Barry trabalha em seu 3º album solo, com lançamento previsto para 2008. Tudo indica que um álbum country está a caminho. Constantemente Barry participa de chats com fans em seu site oficial.

The Bee Gees were a singing trio of brothers — Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. They were born on the Isle of Man to English parents, lived in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, England and during their childhood years moved to Brisbane, Australia, where they began their musical careers. Their worldwide success came when they returned to England and signed with producer Robert Stigwood.
The multiple award-winning group was successful for most of its forty years of recording music, but it had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a harmonic "soft rock" act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as the foremost stars of the disco music era in the late 1970s.
No matter the style, the Bee Gees sang three-part tight harmonies that were instantly recognizable; as brothers, their voices blended perfectly, in the same way that The Everly Brothers and Beach Boys did. Barry sang lead on many songs, and an R&B falsetto introduced in the disco years; Robin provided the clear vibrato lead that was a hallmark of their pre-disco music; Maurice sang high and low harmonies throughout their career. The three brothers co-wrote most of their hits, and they said that they felt like they became 'one person' when they were writing. The group's name was retired after Maurice died in January 2003.
The Bee Gees were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; fittingly, the presenter of the award to "Britain's first family of harmony" was Brian Wilson, leader of the Beach Boys, America's first family of rock harmony.
It has been estimated that the Bee Gees' record sales total more than 220 million, easily making them one of the best-selling music artists of all-time. The above figure in record sales does not include record sales for artists for whom they have written and with whom they have collaborated. Their 1997 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame citation says "Only Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees".
