Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (Santa Bárbara, Califórnia, 25 de outubro de 1984) é uma cantora, compositora e atriz ocasional norte-americana que é conhecida por seu nome artístico, Katy Perry. Ela é filha de um casal de pastores evangélicos e quando era criança cantava em igrejas, chegando a lançar um álbum de estúdio de estilo gospel em 2001, intitulado Katy Hudson, gravado pela Red Hill Records; mas apesar disto, fixou-se na música pop e pop rock, estilos que vêm sido trabalhado por Perry desde 2004.

Após assinar com a Island Def Jam Records em 2004, a cantora conheceu Glen Ballard, e junto a ele compôs e produziu um novo álbum de estúdio, (A) Katy Perry, mas que foram cancelados também. Em 2005, assinou um contrato com a Columbia Records e gravou um álbum de estúdio intitulado The Matrix junto ao grupo The Matrix, que já haviam trabalhado com Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne e Korn. Apesar de chegar a lançar o videoclipe da canção "Broken", o álbum não foi lançado. Em 2006, ela participou do single da banda gospel P.O.D, "Goodbye for Now, mas não prosseguiu com o gospel.

O sucesso de sua carreira musical começou em 2007, com o lançamento do seu primeiro extended play, "Ur So Gay", onde a cantora faz piada ao estilo emo de seu ex-namorado. Com o lançamento de seu álbum de estúdio One of the Boys, a cantora tornou-se uma ícone da música pop, com canções como "I Kissed a Girl" e "Hot N Cold", que ficaram no topo das paradas musicais de todo o mundo. Em novembro de 2009, Katy Perry lançou um MTV Unplugged com as canções de One of the Boys; no final de 2009, trabalhou com 3OH!3 na canção-remix "Starstrukk" e com Timbaland em "If We Ever Meet Again". Perry was born in Santa Barbara, California, and raised by Christian pastor parents; she grew up listening to only gospel music and sang in church as a child. After earning a GED during her freshman year of high school, she began to pursue a music career. She released a self-titled gospel album in 2001 as Katy Hudson which failed with the closing of its record label that year. She recorded an album with production team The Matrix and completed most of a solo album from 2004–2005, neither of which were released.

After signing on with Capitol Music Group in 2007, her fourth record label in seven years, she adopted the stage name Katy Perry and released her first Internet single, "Ur So Gay", that November, which garnered attention but did not chart. She rose to fame with her second single "I Kissed a Girl" in 2008, which topped international charts. Perry's first mainstream album One of the Boys followed later that year and was eventually announced to be the thirty-third best selling album of 2008 worldwide. It was accredited platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America; "I Kissed a Girl" and her second single "Hot N Cold" both received multi-platinum certifications. Perry was ranked the 97th Artist of the 2000-10 decade by Billboard. She became known for wearing unconventional style of dress, often combining colors and vintage fashion. Her next album, Teenage Dream, is scheduled to be released in August 2010.

Perry had a long relationship with Travis McCoy; she is currently engaged to Russell Brand.

Def Leppard é uma banda de rock formada na cidade Sheffield, Inglaterra, em 1977. Fez parte da geração chamada NWOBHM, porém é muito mais conhecida por suas incursões em diversos estilos como heavy metal, hard rock. É considerada uma das bandas mais populares do mundo e já vendeu mais de setenta milhões de álbuns mundialmente.


Origens

Rick Savage (baixo), Pete Willis (guitarra) e Tony Kenning (bateria) formaram, em 1977, uma banda chamada Atomic Mass, que seria o embrião do Def Leppard. Joe Elliott surgiu como guitarrista, mas, após um teste, ficou decidido que ficaria apenas com os vocais. Mudam seu nome para Deaf Leopard (do inglês, "Leopardo Surdo"), mas por sugestão de Tony Kenning, modificam o nome para Def Leppard. Até hoje dizem que essa mudança de nome foi para soar parecido com o nome de outra grande banda, o Led Zeppelin. O Def Leppard sempre negou o fato, embora jamais tenham escondido seu respeito e admiração pela banda. Steve Clark se junta ao grupo em 1978 ao mesmo tempo em que Tony Kenning deixa o grupo. É substituído por Frank Noon, que fica pouco tempo, sendo por sua vez substituído pelo jovem baterista Rick Allen, de apenas quinze anos. Nesse mesmo ano gravam um mini-LP (que conta com a participação de Noon) homônimo e são aclamados como uma das maiores bandas da New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

Def Leppard are a hard rock and heavy metal band from Sheffield, England, which formed in 1977 as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. As of 1992, the band consists of Joe Elliott (vocals), Phil Collen (guitar), Vivian Campbell (guitar), Rick Savage (bass guitar), and Rick Allen (drums). The band has sold over 65 million albums worldwide, and have two albums with RIAA diamond certification, Pyromania and Hysteria.

Early years (1977–1979)

Rick Savage, Pete Willis and Tony Kenning, all students at Tapton School in Sheffield, formed a band called Atomic Mass in 1977. The band originally consisted of Willis on guitar, Savage on bass (after originally playing guitar), with Kenning on drums. Only 18 at the time, Joe Elliott tried out for the band as a guitarist following a chance meeting with Willis after missing a bus. During his audition, however, it was decided that he was better suited to be the lead singer. Their first ever gig was in the dining hall in A Block in Westfield School in Mosborough, Sheffield.

Soon afterward they adopted a name proposed by Elliott, "Def Leopard", which was originally a band name he thought up while writing reviews for imaginary rock bands in his English class (and in at least partial reference to the band Led Zeppelin).[4] At Kenning's suggestion, the spelling was slightly modified in order to make the name seem less like that of a punk band. In January 1978, Steve Clark joined the band. According to Joe Elliott, he successfully auditioned for the band by playing Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird" in its entirety.

In November, just prior to recording sessions for what would be a three-song release known as the Def Leppard EP, Kenning abruptly left the band, later he would form the band Cairo. He was replaced for those sessions by Frank Noon. By the end of the month Rick Allen, then only 15 years old, had joined the band as its full-time drummer.

Sales of the EP soared after the track "Getcha Rocks Off" was given extensive airtime by renowned BBC Radio DJ John Peel, considered at the time to be a champion of punk rock and new wave music.

Throughout 1979, the band developed a loyal following among British hard rock/heavy metal fans and were even initially considered the leaders of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (a status eventually claimed by Iron Maiden). Their growing popularity led to a record deal with the major label Phonogram/Vertigo (Mercury Records in the US).
